YOGA FOR CHRONIC PAIN

This ongoing class will help you rise above the challenges of living with chronic pain.  Each week will focus on a different part of biomechanics and is based on the latest research surrounding pain science, neuroscience, cognitive therapy, and movement. Classes feature gentle corrective yoga postures and breathwork to reduce discomfort and pain. Class ends each week with myofascial release techniques or short meditations geared toward chronic pain.

All levels of yoga experience are welcome. It is highly recommended that you schedule an initial assessment ($99) before starting this course. The assessment will allow us to tailor the course to your needs, and also offer you more insight about your body and structural compensations.

Carrie is a nurse in orthopaedics and community health and is actively involved in the pain science community. She created this program from her 20-year background as a postural therapist, yoga, and anatomy teacher trainer.  The program is designed as a complement to the Rasamaya Method Live Pain Free Program for those desiring additional private sessions.

You are not alone. Low back pain is the most common form of chronic pain in this country, with 8 out of 10 Americans experiencing back pain at least once in their life. This four-week course uses evidence based gentle corrective yoga postures and postural training to reduce or eliminate pain. Emphasis is placed on maintaining proper alignment and is supported by the use of yoga props and the wall. Yoga philosophy, breathwork, and discussion about preventative care will be a key part of this course.

Live the modern monastic life. It is part of the traditional yogic path to rise early, meditate and move your body to prepare for the rest of your day. This early morning class is offered at the peak hours for enhancing your general well being and sense of balance.  Class begins with intention setting and then flows through the Rasamaya Sun Salute Series. This creative series opens all your energy channels while simultaneously strengthening and stretching every part of the body. The end of class is devoted to additional asanas, core work, and breathwork.  Challenge yourself to one month of early morning practice and watch the magic unfold. Stay for donation based meditation at 610a to start your day off well balanced and ready to face any challenges that may arise.

Discover the poetry of your body.  Carrie's constant curiosity about the possibility of the human body is poured into her creative, inspiring, anatomically focused classes.  Class opens with rasa intention setting, breathing technique and somatic movement before moving into creatively adapted sun salutes that will strengthen your body and increase your flexibility.  You can expect to try yoga postures you didn't know existed as you uncover your hidden potential through the balance of dynamic flow and stillness. Classes build each month with key concepts laying the foundation for the following month's flow.  You are welcome to jump in at any point and classes range from beginner - advanced level.  Live inspired.

Rest your mind and your heart. Join us in the early morning hours to experience the power of silent meditation. New meditators are welcome, and Carrie can offer guidance to help you get comfortable with the discomfort that may arise during the practice. Meditation helps to clear and focus your brain and is excellent for stress management and for integrating mindfulness into your daily life.
